Team: Parc Office
Parc Office is a system of smart, driverless truck cabs that infill unused parking spaces with simple 9’x27’ modular pods, their programs dynamically changing to address neighborhood needs. Located primarily on streets, with avenues remaining the city’s main vehicular arteries. The pods are available for city agencies, non-profits, local business and neighborhood individuals to create temporary events and pop-up spaces. As a kit of parts, a variety of colors and roof profiles loosely communicate their different uses while creating a lively streetscape. Parks, urban farms, public seating areas, and skateparks are simultaneously infilled to compliment and connect the different pods.
The Driverless Future Challenge sought proposals that would actively shape the city’s response to driverless cars. Entries from more than 25 countries proposed everything from driverless food carts and a fully-autonomous MTA transit system, to enhanced use of NYC’s 311 system as a driverless dispatching center, and Link NYC Wifi stations that become stops for autonomous micro-busses.
