Safeguarding Our Seafood
A project to help determine the safety of Nuu-chah-nulth seafood
following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident
The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) took our concerns seriously. In 2014, the NTC, with funds from the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), partnered with Vancouver Aquarium and Simon Fraser University to determine whether or not radiation from the Fukushima accident was in present our seafood.
Our Communities Depend on Healthy Seafood…
Nuu-chah-nulth communities are intimately connected with the ocean. Since time immemorial, we have harvested and eaten ocean foods. Our culture, health, and livelihood depend on them.
