What to do with the almost 1000 subterranean and above ground structures now obsolete? Street-level entries and facades were easily appropriated as condos, restaurants, or for entertainment venues. Not so the large, cavernous spaces below. Combining the best, from locally produced foods, to open source public space, and median micro housing, New New York has once again become the hotbed of urban life.
The Driverless Future Challenge sought proposals that would actively shape the city’s response to driverless cars. Entries from more than 25 countries proposed everything from driverless food carts and a fully-autonomous MTA transit system, to enhanced use of NYC’s 311 system as a driverless dispatching center, and Link NYC Wifi stations that become stops for autonomous micro-busses.
