Dr. Ralph Anderson was one of founders of The Society of Gynecologic Oncology of Canada (GOC). He completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Western Ontario, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 1969. In 1979, together with Dr. Denny DePetrillo, and Dr. Michel Roy, they formed the Nucleus Committee to write the bylaws of the Society. And in March 1980, GOC was officially born. As one of the fathers of the Society, Dr. Anderson’s signature appears on the historic “birth certificate” – incorporation document – of the GOC. Dr. Anderson devoted his career to treating patients, advancing medical education and working as an advocate for women’s health. He passed away on July 31st, 2017 in Fort Worth, Texas. As a society, we will strive to remember his life, contributions and legacy.
