The USS Vandenberg (originally USS General Harry Taylor) launched in 1943 as a transport ship and later was turned into a MRIS, Missile Range Instrumentation Ship. She was equipped with antennas and electronics to support the launching and tracking of missiles and rockets. The Vandenberg was sunk off the coast of Key West in May 2009 to create an artificial reef.
The 1998 movie "Virus" was shot on this ship.
