The mother was very inquisitive and approached the boat and the snorkelers immediately, in a what I would interpret as friendly manner. She circled around us multiple times, it looked like she was proudly showing off her new born, a white calf!
She stayed in a protective swimming pattern between us and the calf. We didn't see any feeding whilst interacting with her, no signs of milk, though her placenta was still visible! This surface swim transitioned to a dive. 40 minutes in heaven!
This happened around two Kilometer south of the Mohéli Marine Park, Comoros (East Africa) on the 18th of August at around 9AM.
