Japanese legend tells of the Jibutsu, a sacred stone created in the ancient fires of Fuji. This relic had the power to unlock devastating forces from realms beyond our own and whoever possessed it would gain the powers of the gods. It is said that the last time the Jibutsu was wielded by man, a wave of death and destruction ensued and the stone vanished. Never found and lost to time, its powers laid dormant. Until now.
In San Francisco, FBI agent Cole Bennett lies in wait, preparing for a Yakuza bust. His new, bumbling partner, Barry “Mack” McClay rushes back to him after a quick reconnaissance with the news that there are five confirmed members of the Yakuza inside. The two burst in guns blazing to find them transporting an ancient Japanese stone, the Jibutsu. The leader of the group, an FBI informant named Kana, commands her men to stand down. But after a lapse in focus on Barry’s part, two members grab the stone and escape. The FBI gives chase but only to find a mysterious woman holding the box which houses the relic. She opens it a burst of energy shoots forth from it, setting off catastrophic damage to the city.
Back in their L.A. office, Cole and Mack are briefed on the current situation – A weapon of untold power is in the hands of terrorists and every organized crime boss is trying to get their hands on it. Cole goes to Kana for questioning to try and figure out where she and the Yakuza fit into all of this and just what exactly this weapon is capable of. To Cole’s disbelief, Kana tells him the mythology behind the stone and how Alexander Baird, the CEO of the world’s largest IT firm, and a witch, Kora, plan to use it for global domination. Worse yet, if the witch reaches Baird with the stone, they’ll achieve just that.
The FBI uses satellites to track the witch’s movements and find her heading to a hand off with a local crime boss. Cole and Mack race to the scene to intercept the weapon but after a quick firefight, Kora opens the stone’s box and destruction begins raining down upon them. The agents make a desperate escape, with no answers and no stone. Kora delivers the Jibutsu to Baird and he releases a video demanding the world’s allegiance to him and, in a display of his power, uses the stone to decimate a city.
Cole and Mack assemble a team to ascend Baird’s skyscraper and take him out. On this crew is Kana, who reveals her lineage to be that of the stone’s guardian and that she alone can defeat Baird now that he possesses the power of the Jibutsu. As they climb the tower, Baird begins unleashing chaos on Los Angeles. Kana and Cole reach him and though he tries to fight off their advance, Kana, as guardian, is immune to his power. She charges him, blade in hand and stabs Baird, killing him. His death brings about an end to the destruction and a calm falls over the city. Kana implores Cole to keep the stone safe and he gives his word to do so. After handing the box off to the government for safe keeping, Cole returns home where he gazes at the real Jibutsu, safe under his protection.
