From Gemma Weekes mouth:
In deeply whimsical fashion, Richard Louissaint shot this on a Sunday in Manhattan after hearing my track (he twisted my arm! lol) and being like: 'LET'S SHOOT A VID!' and I was like 'WHA?' and then I was like____pause___ 'OK!'. This was not on my mind to do at all as I'd been in the city working on #whomurkedbasquiat but spontaneity can be the mother of awesomeness or at least fun-ness! :-) So here we are! And thanks, Mr, can't believe the dopeness you made in a few hours with a tired Londoner who'd forgotten her own lyrics lol
Song background: I wrote, vocalled and produced Sickness in my ipad awhile ago (mean-mugging continuously) for a fictional band called 'Poor Yorick' from a dystopian musical theatre play I was commissioned to write by Theatre Royal Stratford East that never saw light of day. Who'd a thunk a thing would still come out of it, eh?
The mischief of Basquiat has definitely been alive in all my doings this year as, unbeknownst to us, we shot a big portion of this just yards from the Mudd Club where he used to hang out and perform. Thanks for cluing us all in Alice! And hey, Jean :-)
