Clinker | On the Other Side…
Live Cinema Performance DEMO Part1
Clinker’s “On the Other Side...” explores Cohen’s continued romance with the light and dark inside our human experience. An audio-visual “deep listening” environment which draws from the vast depths of emotion written into the words and music of Leonard Cohen.
The lush bass tones of Cohen’s voice provide a point of departure for our journey inside Clinker’s cinema of sound and light. Drawing from years of experience in creating and manipulating music and audio, Clinker deconstructs and reassembles Cohen’s voice into surreal “bass-scapes” using his unique and sophisticated system of analogue and digital electronics. Clinker’s creation will bathe the audience in an array of Cohen’s “golden” vocal chords augmented with a connection between sonic and visual details. Specially designed sub-sonic sound frequencies (created from Cohen’s voice itself) reinforce the experience of extreme sound-movement through the body.
This piece can also be punctuated with musical adaptations of some of Clinker’s favorite Cohen songs featuring special guest virtuoso guitarist and recording artist, Les Robot. This on-stage collaboration together draws on both artist’s penchant for post-future musical arrangement.
This piece was originally commissioned by the 2008 Leonard Cohen International Festival.
CLINKER | LIVE CINEMA AV PERFORMANCE
CLINKER’s Live Cinema creates a live synchresis between audio-visual events which reside in the moment. No computer or MIDI synching is used in the genesis of these events. All A/V “connections” are live and are made possible organically through the use of live layering / phasing / triggering techniques. Clinker’s interest is focused on the creation of a truly unique experience for each audience member using the brains natural ability to “connect the dots.”
All vocals and harmonies throughout the piece are performed and layered live in concert.
The DEMO runs just over 18-minutes (2-parts) and is edited down from 100% live performance footage. It is sectioned into excerpts which move sequentially throughout the piece. In its entirety (approximately 52 minutes - with musical accompaniment) On the Other Side... ebbs and flows seamlessly exploring various themes... from delicate deep listening through intense kinesthetic moments revealing the physical effects of sound.
The performance was recorded live-off-the floor at the Leonard Cohen International Festival on July 25, 2008.
