In this seventh episode of Innovate @ Illinois, Andy Singer highlights the role of Small Business Innovation Research awards known as "SBIR and STTR" funding in helping commercialize research.
In Champaign County alone, 127 SBIR and STTR grants totaling over $47.5 million were awarded to small businesses between the years of 2004-2010.
First up, Laura Frerichs talks with Illinois Rocstar, a group of rocket scientists using codes to perform rocket simulations created here at the University of Illinois.
Next, Laura Frerichs meets with two members of Mimosa Acoustics—where they’re creating state-of-the-art auditory technologies
We hear from a man who helps train entrepreneurs on how to apply for and win SBIR grants, and finally Laura Bleill introduces us to Starfire Industries, where we hear just how the Research Park has helped the company win millions of dollars in SBIR/STTR funding.
