A Photo Story by Margaret Anne Murphey
91-year-old, Margaret Anne Murphey, an early founder of the Tupelo Symphony, produced the photo story, “My Legacy to the Symphony”, to support and sustain the development of the arts in Tupelo.
“I cannot really imagine what life is like, without an appreciation of music. It fills you with whatever emotion is appropriate at the time.
The arts will carry-on because of children we educate. In Tupelo, we’re doing a fine job. My legacy will be to spend my remaining years developing The Legacy Fund so the Symphony will have a guarantee of continued life."
- Margaret Anne Murphey, Chairman of The Legacy Fund of the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra

Tupelo is one of ten cities elected to participate in “Celebrating Storytelling”, a Mississippi Bicentennial project that will culminate with 100 community voices.
In August 2017, community leaders produced a series of eight photo documentaries, highlighting people and initiatives that have built Tupelo from its beginnings. The event was a unique occasion to celebrate aspects of “Tupelo spirit” that have carried the community from generation to generation, and to define new pathways forward.
