LuxVox is an application created in Max/MSP for generating ambient audio compositions automatically from user-chosen images. The jpeg is loaded into the software and the RGB values of the pixels on the x-axis are analysed line by line, the data from this feeding into an algorithm that manipulates up to three user-selected samples by an FFT-based process. The audio is then output to the computer's soundcard.
This is a short demonstration of the type of compositions the patch generates. As the software was designed for installation purposes this demonstration is very much an accelerated process in order to give a feel of the usage and results of the system. The audio files chosen for manipulation in this instance are three synthesized samples generated by SuperCollider.
The image used is of Langdon Cliffs, south east England, with Dover beach in the foreground.
