The building envelope not only serves as an interface between dynamic outside climate conditions and rather static internal requirements, it filters or absorbs physical energy flows towards the interior of a building. Dependent on its environment as climate condition and orientation, the façade receives huge differences in temperature and humidity. Autoreactive and self-sufficient materials responding to changing exterior conditions offer great potential. This video shows strategies to reduce energy consumption and maintenance of technical building services by integrating those materials into office building envelopes.
