It’s no reality show, but if it were, Dan Meyer’s life might read like a survivor script. As a teenager he became a trauma victim, beating the odds in his recovery. He is a survivor and has the scars to prove it, after nearly dying in a car wreck 6 years ago. Dan says that he was rear-ended by a drunk driver at a stoplight and that his head wounds were extensive. He says that he flatlined twice, once on the way to the hospital and once after he was in the hospital but they were able to revive him.

Statistically the odds of Dan’s survival went up because he was within close proximity of a level two-trauma center. This meant that he could get in what’s come to be called: the golden hour.
