Wall of Song is a collaborative singing video work by artists Mel Day and Michael Namkung that invites people from all different backgrounds, beliefs, political affiliations, orientations and countries of origin—no matter their ability to carry a tune—to record themselves singing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. In this time of great unknowing, uncertainty and division, this is a wall that brings us together, instead of dividing us.
Launched at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art and in Washington, D.C. on January 20, 2017, Wall of Song has been exhibited nationally at numerous venues, most recently at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco as a large-scale video installation and live singing event with support from multiple organizations, individual donors and participants.
