Recollection: Human Torpedo
Haruko Sasakawa (harukosasakawa.com/index.html)
plywood, PVC pipe, rope, paper, monitor, LED light, speaker
When I showed my grandfather the photos and documents I collected from this field investigation, he began to recall his memory and drew a picture of the torpedo. Based on the collected documents and my grandfather’s testimony, I recreated the torpedo made of plywood.
There is a periscope attached to the torpedo, through which one can look into and see the photos that I took on my trip around the islands.
The vague images seen in the periscope may be what my grandfather saw at that time in the past. But all the photos are scenes of the presents, and it is impossible to fully capture the sights that he had actually seen.
