Mark Mahnken is a third generation rancher in Salisbury, Missouri. Despite being an engineering graduate, he returned to the ranch in 1981, after he realised that he was spending too much time away from the family as an engineer.

Together with his father, Mark ran the ranch as a custom feed lot, where other farmers would leave cattle under their care. At the peak of their business, they had 25 employees to care for 5,000 cattle in a land area of 800 acres.

But concentration in the industry over the last decade made his business model no longer viable and he had to completely revamp his business.

In 2008, he started Missouri Legacy Beef in continuation of a legacy that his grandfather started in 1902. This is his story.
