This is a story told with no subject but you.
Universal visual communication is possible, but only when the forms we see are truly neutral. Recognizable images, objects and symbols invite interpretations based on your distinctive set of experiences and opinions. As a filmmaker, I look for ‘pure’ forms: arrangements of color, movements and compositions that might be judged on aesthetic alone. My goal is to create an art that can be equally truthful to every one of you.
These videos illustrate a cyclical metaphor, but they are not synchronized. The forms you see will repeat themselves every 1,590 minutes, or perhaps never. As you walk through the space, you may cast a shadow. Your presence may directly affect this abstract visual object, also modifying the experience for others. You are now the subject of this narrative.
Many thanks to Luke Geissbühler and the Brooklyn Space Program.
