The Kingsburg City Band, under the musical direction of Dale Engstrom, presents its final concert of the 2017 "Summer Band Concerts Under the Stars" series. The theme for the evening's concert is "Classics" and the band plays such classic music as Sousa's "Washington Post," music from "West Side Story," Bach's "Fugue in E Minor" (arranged by Wally Engstrom), and the hauntingly beautiful "Swedish Folk Suite." Guest vocalist Katie Engstrom sings the timeless "God Bless the Child" and the swinging "Orange Colored Sky." Guest percussionist Joe Lizama, always an audience favorite, drives the jazz standard "Sing, Sing, Sing" (with a surprise visit by Gene Doi on sax) and is also featured in the wonderful "In the Miller Mood." To continue the much-loved tradition, the band plays its rousing rendition of the "1812 Overture," augmented by John Wilson's cannons and the bell atop Concordia Lutheran Church. And, for approximately the 240th time, Dale Engstrom closes the concert with America's favorite march, "The Stars and Stripes Forever."
