CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM is designed to reveal and conceal its own nature- conceptually and physically. Its demure composure depends on the existence of fuel in a chamber. Without the presence of fuel, the mechanism inside this sculpture (comprised of triggers, brakes, spindles, pulleys, clutches, springs, levers) releases compressed leaf springs into centrifugal momentum. The artwork transforms, a red cloak emerging to drape the very components making the sculpture react this way. By design, as long as the sculpture's tank has fuel the cloak remains lifted.
