Hurricane Ike was a massive 2008 hurricane that devastated Cuba and filled the entire Gulf of Mexico before direct hits on Galveston and Houston with 20-foot walls of storm surge resulting in the third costliest Atlantic hurricane of all time, only surpassed by Hurricane Andrew of 1992 and Hurricane Katrina of 2005.
Ike also resulted in the largest evacuation of Texans in that state's history and became the largest search-and-rescue operation in U.S. history.
I shot video and stills in Galveston, Houston, Kemah, San Leon, Oak Island, High Island and Baytown and was awarded First Place Photo Package by the Houston Press Club for my coverage.
