Since I can remember, the lights of urban metropolises have meant the future to me. I daydreamed of a shimmering Tokyo with its reds, blues, and yellows. The past, it seemed, had been very slow, governed by wood and candlelight. What could contrast more than a vertical city, humbling in scale, in which everything is always moving? Lights flash everywhere. Cars are now here and then there; I can't keep track. It's like a hurricane, and I find myself lost in all the motions of my fantasies, of the city I have fetishized. That is the future; urbanization is an unstoppable force. It feels overwhelming, but I love it because the flux is like magic.
In an effort to reconcile the needs of the video concept with the requirements of this contest, the most obvious logos have been obscured, while those that remain are small and distorted through blur. Although I am not an expert in these things, the signs in Chinatown were generic typography without trademark or copyright and were visible from a public space and so, after discussion, they were not blurred.
Finally, I included the pre-video warning as a safety precaution. I have no problem removing it if it constitutes an opening credit. "Discretion" is misspelled.
