We, Bas Ackermann, Emiel Martens and Babucar Manka, are passionate social impact filmmakers operating between The Netherlands and The Gambia. This year we have won the ‘Your Movie Matters’ pitch of Amnesty International’s Movies that Matter Film Festival in The Hague for our new film Gifts from Babylon. This short fiction film focuses on issues of illegal migration and return-migration of young Africans between Europe (Babylon) and Africa. Gifts from Babylon is the ‘sequel’ of the internationally acclaimed documentary Welcome to the Smiling Coast, which premiered at the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) in L.A., 2016.
