Mark Wells is a fantastic singer-songwriter from Newcastle, NSW, and we'd been talking about doing something for a while before this. We talked about the song and we both agreed the clip needed to capture the collaborative interplay between the band on the track.
This is probably the most enjoyable shoot I've done. I rarely enjoy shooting - the fun is in the preparation and the editing. Here, we were in the gorgeous Civic Theatre in Newcastle, we had plenty of time up our sleeves to try out ideas that came to me, and everyone was a joy to work with.
I shot this on a Panasonic HVX-200, which I lugged up from Sydney on a replacement bus service (trains were out) along with a redhead kit and my computer gear.
I was more or less a one man band, with great help from the Civic staff, who gave us access all around and let us use their stage lighting. I cut it on Final Cut Pro 6 over the next few days, and after a couple of tweaks based on Mark's notes, the clip was done. I'm very proud of this video, and it holds up as well as anything I've done to date.
