This was put together for the band Jet Johnson, who were working with our label at the time around 2004. It is the work of Ebba Erikzon, a good friend, who had recently graduated from the Royal College of Art, having studied fine art animation. Ebba had then just finished an animation for Radiohead. I guess I [Dave Holmes] could be considered the producer / engineer for this video. We worked together tirelessly on this in my small flat in Soho on, what would now be considered a very prehistoric laptop, for some months.
I am pretty pleased with the result. The track "Death Song" was one of Jet Johnson's loveliest and most melancholic songs - not that this was an exception for them. The mainstay of the band were Carolina and Gavin [Billy Mahony] and this track was produced by a then virtually unknown Paul Epworth, who went on to greatness as a producer, working with huge world wide acts. This song featured on a full length album entitled "Micropolitan", which Lorraine Snape, who studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design, produce a stunning Norwegian landscape inspired cover for. Perhaps, when I have a moment, I will upload the cover for you to peruse. "Micropolitan" was also produced by Paul Epworth and is a heart-rending comment on the London experience, love and other beautifulness.
Gav and Carolina have moved from London, where they were living at the time, to Oslo in Norway [Carolina being Norwegian] to start a family. You can still find them out there with their two delightful young ones playing in bands, organising gigs and enjoying a far less polluted environment.
Gavin even taught himself to speak Norwegian, with Carolina's help no doubt. A worthy achievement indeed for a Brit.
