On August 20, 1999 Starnet Communications International was raided after an 18 month investigation into illegal gambling and prohibited pornography.
The company's Vancouver offices and homes of 6 directors were raided by 100 police officers from the RCMP, the Coordinated Law Enforcement Unit (CLEU), the Vancouver City Police and other agencies (including the RCMP's High Tech Crime Unit in Ottawa).
Armed SWAT team members used battering rams to break down the doors of the executive suite. Three floors of the building were occupied by the police.
Billed as a pioneer of interactive gambling and information, Starnet is best known for providing subscribers with live camera feeds of strippers performing at a Vancouver strip club known as No. Five Orange.
