Imagine what happens if you can use FPGA as a ROS node! FPGA is known as a power-efficient hardware platform for applications including image recognition processing as well as deep neural networks. However, the development cost of FPGA-based system is high to integrate FPGA into robot systems. In order to solve this problem, we propose ROS-compliant FPGA component technology, which is effective in easy integration of FPGA device into robot systems. Two demonstration systems are exhibited: 1) ROS-Compliant FPGA component of feature extraction processing from camera image and 2) restaurant service robot using FPGA in ROS system.
