I had the privilege of attending a mid-term presentation in March 2011 of students in George Aye's class, Living in a Smart City, at the School of the Art Institute. Their charge was to think of how to minimize disruptions caused by traffic crashes. They focused on the Milwaukee-North and Damen intersection, or the crotch - the center of Wicker Park. They revealed a model of the intersection, and it looked like this.
I came back to the class in May 2011 to hear the updated and refined presentation of the same project. I was in awe to see how they upgraded the model to include a video projection identifying the proposed changes to the intersection and environs.
