An increasing amount of gay men are coming out and talking about the pressures they face within the gay community.
The male-centric culture that gay men face hyper sexualizes relationships and turns the focus on physical characteristics. This focus has caused many gay men to feel self-conscious about their bodies, harming their self-esteem and eventually leading to unhealthy dieting. As a result, studies show that over twice as many homosexual men have eating disorders than heterosexual men.
There is a stigma with many men to deny the need to seek help when in trouble; because of this there are a large percentage of gay men that live with eating disorders and body image issues and never receive help or talk about it.
