Art and the Seeming Impossible
20 September 2017 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney
ALICE NASH, Back to Back Theatre’s long-standing Executive Producer & Co-CEO, tells their story.
Introduced by the Honourable Justice Elizabeth Fullerton of the NSW Supreme Court
Over the last 30 years Back to Back Theatre, has made a body of work that questions the assumptions of what is possible in theatre. The company’s most famous work, Ganesh Versus the Third Reich, nearly didn’t happen. It erupted into public controversy in 2011 with calls for it to be banned, but has since garnered critical and audience acclaim from New York, Paris, London and Tokyo and 30 other cities. Today Back to Back is one of Australia’s most important cultural exports.
…never lets you settle into passive acceptance of anything it does. A vital, sense-sharpening tonic for theatre-goers who feel they’ve seen it all. – Ben Brantley, New York Times.
Where is the UK’s answer to Back to Back? – Lyn Gardner, Guardian UK.
