MARTA MORENO MUÑOZ will speak about ART PRACTICE AND ACTIVISM IN TIMES OF COLLAPSE
“This is our darkest hour. We are in an urgent need of a radical system change: it is our sacred duty to rebel.”
I understand artistic practice as a vehicle that can transform life, our relationship with ourselves, society, and the natural world by experimenting with our subjectivities, expanding the consciousness and therefore creating new existential scenarios. As an activist and artist fully engaged with Extinction Rebellion—a global environmental movement with the stated aim of using nonviolent civil disobedience to compel government action to avoid tipping points in the climate system, biodiversity loss, and the risk of social and ecological collapse—my latest performances internalize this existential crisis in the midst of the current planetary emergency. At this conference, I will present my next project 2020: The Walk, in which I plan to go mostly on foot all the way from Granada to Helsinki raising awareness about the no-fly movement and helping to spread Extinction Rebellion.
“Barricading the Ice Sheets” is a research endeavor by Oliver Ressler and supported by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF: AR 526). In autumn 2021 it will materialize as an exhibition at Camera Austria.
