This past Spring, two local startups in the Central New York area, took part in the 2017 Spring cohort of the AFRL Commercialization Academy. Those two teams were Adk Ops and Mentis Technologies, LLC.
Adk Ops, the tech division of Adirondack Operations, an environmental consulting agency, developed The AppMyProject platform, which is a web-based project data collection, sharing and presentation creation platform. It leverages Google Drive, 360° panorama images and a convention based project management paradigm to improve collaboration and facilitate sharing of project tours on social networks. http://www.adkops.com/
Mentis Technologies, LLC, is a cybersecurity company focusing on preventing viruses and all forms of malware from infecting computers through internet browsing while at the same time protecting privacy. http://mentistech.com/
We spoke to Mary Anne and Craig Kaputa, natives of Croghan, NY, and co-founders of Adk Ops, twice. First at the beginning of the AFRL Commercialization Academy cohort, and then again before their pitch at Demo Day.
Demo Day is the event at the end of a cohort, where each startup team takes the stage to compete in a pitch competition in front of a live audience and a judges' panel, in the hopes of taking home the “big check”, to use towards their brand-new businesses.
Here, Mary Anne and Craig, together, discuss the need for their app, the progress they are making, and how the AFRL Commercialization Academy is helping them to get the solution they desire, and realize their goals.
Mary Anne and Craig wanted to make their mark. And did.
