"Turbo Tom & The Texans...A Totally Bogus Rockumentary" was originally produced in 2001 as a surprise wedding video for my cousin Tom. I barely finished the film in time and miraculously (we're talking divine intervention here) I was able to output both the long and short versions before my computer fatally crashed from maxing out the hard-drive.
This is the 55 minute, unedited "Director's Cut." A shorter 25 minute, cleaned up version suitable for a mixed crowd was shown at the wedding reception. All of the bad language in this full-length version has been 'bleeped out' and the characters are outrageously funny.
Tom's younger brother Rob always referred to him as "Tom Corporate" or "Turbo Tom" and also coined the catchy name "Turbo Tom & The Texans," a name that stuck with me and subsequently underlined the basic idea for this film. It's "Spinal Tap" Texas style and there are many funny scenes, including a couple of mock commercials and other funny scenes created from many hours of video shot during the late eighties and nineties.
In 1995 I shot interviews with Tom, his younger brother Rob and older sister Terri. Bryce, a long time friend, played the role of "Vinzelli", a sleezy promoter and band manager. During the interviews everyone was directed to play it off as if "Turbo Tom & The Texans" was a real band with huge international success and all the trappings that come with it.
The film has been shelved since Tom's wedding in 2001, but I decided it was time to bring it back out, dust it off and share it with others, so here it is for your enjoyment.
The rock band is fictional, but the moonshine was the real deal!
