This video is made with 16mm slug film, made of a 35mm test print cut in half of the 1993 Rambo parody Hot Shots!
Part Deux.
This film was a comedy about an American Invasion in Iraq (hence the images of Saddam Hussein making a sandwich). This video was made at the time of the second war in Iraq in 2007. The question at the end "Yes or No?" is a question to the audience: do we want more war, and do we want more war films? The soundtrack for this film was made by Peter Lester, who freely borrowed lines and sounds from mainstream film and TV. This video was made as part of my PhD Thesis titled "Afterimages and Afterthoughts about the Afterlife of Film: A Memory of Resistance" (Concordia University, 2010). It was the first in a series of 5 slug-film videos, all made as an homage to the forgotten art of flatbed editing.
