Kicking off a series of works dedicated to experimentation and research into the physics of rotation and equilibrium, Berlin-based visual artist Julius von Bismarck reflects on nature and natural settings as the ideal site for artistic and scientific reflection. BAL Productions filmed the artist in Locarno, Switzerland, as he researched the cognitive impact of pendulum swings using rocks strung below a bridge with rope. This research began as part of an artistic residency at the CERN particle physics laboratory in France. Von Bismarck was the first Prix Ars Electronica Collide@CERN laureate in 2011.
