In-Field Studio (hereinafter: IF) held "In-Field Studio 2017 in Santiniketan", West Bengal, India from March 16th to 22nd.
IF conducts the design workshop centering on field survey in India every year since 2014. In this time, which is the 4th time, the theme is “Going Vernacular“, through the research and regeneration activities for the traditional society that coexists with the natural environment in the rural area of India. We aimed to grasp the beginning of the more comprehensive creation based on human life, then held the workshop which included research work, construction and lecture series for 7 days.
There are 7 participants from Japan, 14 from Vadodara (Gujarat of India) and 11 from Santiniketan (West Bengal of India) in total 32. Lecturers are 3 from Japan, 2 from Germany, 1 from Vadodara (Vadodara Design Academy), 6 from Visva-Bharati Univ in Santiniketan in total 12. So the total members are 44 people. In the workshop the integrated mutual cooperation and interaction happened between various people of various backgrounds such as architecture, fashion design, sociology, ecology, etc., the Kheladanga people, who are the native tribal community “Santhal”, and the member of Amarkutir-Society.
詩人R・タゴールが「人間性の恢復」を求めて学校を創設した、インド東部シャンティニケタン。その地で開催された国際建築学校 In-Field Studioでの、森に囲まれた村の滞在型調査と民家の再建作業を通した空間制作、村全体を舞台とした小演劇の記録（主宰:佐藤研吾）。
