There is growing momentum to encourage Open Access publishing through funding initiatives.
Authors benefit from the increasing availability of, for example institutional, open access fee assistance.
For example: Research Councils UK (RCUK), have made open access fees part of their general funding and provide money to cover some or all of the open access publication costs.
Normally an open access fee (or APC) is paid after peer review and acceptance, and enables the content to be freely available to readers.
At VU researchers may be eligible to cover the cost of the open access article processing charges (APC) when publishing a research article in a peer reviewed journal.
Publishers Springer Nature (BioMed Central), Taylor & Francis and Wiley talk about their open access publishing programs.
