I go on a "pilgrimage" to Aboyne every autumn and I thought a video might explain why! My first attempt at using a GoPro and at editing a video!
Towed to 3300 feet under some promising looking cloud, pulled off in lift and pushed upwind to the leading edge of the cloud and was able to climb up the edge. Modest rates of climb and quite a small area of lift but I stuck with it to see where it would take me, and ended up climbing to 20,000 feet without really having to move from my release point! It's a shame there was so much lower level cloud to spoil the view.
Descended because the cloud upwind was thickening and was glad I had when I witnessed a rainbow from above! (14:45)
I'd had my eye on a safe hole in the cloud above the village of Tarland and it got a bit tight as I circled down through it.
Managed to fumble with the GoPro and it didn't record the maximum height I attained. Had I remembered to mark a low point after release from tow this would have been a diamond badge. A good excuse to do it all again next year, with luck.
