L'opera trae ispirazione da una consuetudine degli indigeni dell'isola di Nuova Guinea, citata nel cartello al termine del video. Da là ho immaginato che una bambina, in clandestina e solitaria resistenza, si opponesse a tale olocausto e decidesse di cambiare il destino assegnato a quelle esistenze. Inventando un alfabeto segreto e mettendo le parole al sicuro tra i versi da lei scritti. Il narratore della poesia è proprio una delle parole salvate...

CRADLING VANISHED WORDS

inscribe verses of vanished words.
She, in half-light,
cradles and cherishes.
Saving from the oblivion of who,
at each farewell,
blows away.

Geographer E. Baron acquaints us that:
Language among Papuans is very poor indeed: Each tribe has its own tongue whose lexicon becomes continuously poor because, after each death, some words are suppressed as a mark of mourning.
This work draws inspiration from that custom observed by natives of the New Guinea island. I pictured then that a little girl, in clandestine and solitary resistance, could oppose such a holocaust and could decide to change the destiny assigned to those existences. Devising a secret alphabet and saving words putting them inside verses written by herself. The narrator is indeed one of the rescued words...
