In FY16, Moly-Cop Waratah's Rail Products department experienced 19 Significant Safety Occurrences (SSO’s). 8 of which related to Cranes and Lifting incidents.
in 2017 concerns were raised within the department, and the decision was made to do something “out of the norm” to try and get an emotive link to change employee’s behaviours.
The call was put out for Rail products team members to provide ideas for the filming of crane and lifting related “scenarios” around which the safety video would be developed. As well as inviting Rail Products team members, and their families to feature in the filming of the video.
6 crane and lifting related scenarios were short listed. A script and filming schedule created. And filming was carried out over 2 days on the Waratah site in the Rail Plant using all of the departments own cranes and team members.
After the video was produced, a premiere screening was held at the Tower cinema movie theatre in Newcastle NSW. The screening was attended by all team members and their families who “starred” in the movie, as well as other management and WHS members.
Since then the video has been shared across all Moly-Cop Waratah departments. The Liberty Onsteel business, featuring on their Safety Intranet page. And being awarded the 2017 Hunter Manufacturing (HMA) Excellence in Safety Award. As well as a 2017 Moly-Cop Australasia Workplace Initiative Award.
