Teens and Weans House is the culmination of an exciting digital inter-generational project, facilitated by Hippotrix with Musician David Trouton. and creative technologist Craig Steele. Young people have built an app designed for the very young to play. Teenagers have steered the design, UX, coding & music and early years children have provided the artwork and voices for the app.
This video gives a good impression of the app in action, and perhaps more importantly how the toddlers responded to playing with 'their' app. This video was actually shot at the final prototype testing session with the Early Years children who had created all the artwork and sound fx!
One of the boys explains "You can choose between cutting hair, pizza or a sunflower" and then a little girl tells us "Don't cut it" because one of the scenes the teenagers have designed it as a "soft lesson" in what to do (and not to do) with scissors, and if you do cut the hair or flower the smiley emoji in the corner changes to a sad face.
The project was created for West Lothian Council’s Community Arts, and funded by Creative Scotland’s Time To Shine Digital Fund. Download via Google play or App Store and read more on the blog.
