What would we learn if we changed the way we looked at our cities? What if, instead of just looking at them, we could listen to them?
SoundAffects was an experiential project by Parsons The New School for Design. It turned everyday things, from weather and traffic to color and motion, into their own musical sounds.
We conducted experiments throughout the week to see how disruptions on the block affected the music. Scroll through the timeline to watch and listen to the various experiments.
We’ve made the data available to the public. Go to the website to download our CSV file if you would like to create your own compositions. Be sure to share them with us.
At Parsons, we’re rethinking and remaking the role of design. We’re collaborating across disciplines and boundaries to craft innovative approaches to the complex social and ecological forces that comprise the world today. To learn more, visit parsons.edu.
