“A Maasai Story”
Ethical fashion makes the change
AN INITIATIVE BY ISTITUTO OIKOS
In 2017 Istituto Oikos started “Terra”, a project funded by the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development, which aims to improve livelihood of Maasai communities in the Arusha Region (Northern Tanzania) developing environmentally sustainable actions.
Terra has set up a social green enterprise run by a Maasai women’s group called ‘Enuyata’ for the production of leather handicraft which consists of a vegetal leather tannery in the village of Mkuru and a small manufacturing laboratory in Arusha.
This initiative empowers vulnerable women giving them the opportunity to gain skills, knowledge and economic means to support their community.
Ethical fashion designer Marina Spadafora along with a team of Italian experts travelled to Tanzania to design a collection of leather accessories in collaboration with the Enuyata group.
This film shares that experience.
