Mark 15:1-20 paints the incredible picture of a King taking the place of a rebel, one facing execution and deserving of death. All followers of Jesus can identify with Barabbas, the guilty sinner who was released because of Jesus! This scene is remarkable in that it sheds light on what was accomplished at the Cross by Jesus Christ. He took our place! The righteous for the unrighteous, so that we could be pardoned. But the gospel doesn't stop there! By trusting in Jesus we aren't simply pardoned, but made sons and daughters of the King! Our passage conveys the Son of God being brutally tortured-both physically and emotionally-for us! He did it for us! How have you responded to the ultimate act of grace, the death of Jesus for sinners?
