This was a film made in 1983 by Mike Portelly. He made it with his friends Lauren Heston, Bob Johnson and Bob Bearchell.
Mike was a dentist who discovered a love for scuba diving and on a trip to the Red Sea started taking photographs underwater. This became his passion and developed into his career.
He won competitions, gained commissions, made friends and taught himself film making. this film once a cult favourite at festivals is not commercially available and copies are rare. but i believe it deserves to be seen and Mikes pioneering underwater work remembered. The techniques and methods Mike invented and used were ahead of their time, as were the concerns and vision behind the concept have not lost relevance. Sadly Mike Portelly passed away in 2007 still very close to Lauren and Bob Johnston.
I had absolutely nothing to do with the making of this film, I became a friend and collaborator several years later. I have no claims of ownership or rights to the film other than that.
Mike gave me copies of this film and other pieces of his work, the masters were becoming moldy so I had them digitized, this is just an mp4 copy uploaded.
I just believe that there is a bit of magic here that should not be lost.
