The Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and Sojourners co-hosted an evening of discussion and debate on Jim Wallis's latest book, The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith & Politics in a Post–Religious Right America. The presentation included a dialogue with E.J. Dionne Jr., a professor at Georgetown University and long-time op-ed columnist for The Washington Post. Wallis, bestselling author and international commentator on religion and public life, is also the President and Chief Executive Officer of Sojourners. Following the presentation, Wallis held a signing for his most recent book.
Reverend Jim Wallis is a bestselling author, public theologian, speaker, preacher, and international commentator on religion and public life, faith, and politics. Wallis is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Sojourners, a progressive Christian grassroots movement that advocates spirituality and social change in America, and he is the editor-in-chief of Sojourners magazine and a Berkley Center Research Fellow during fall 2010. He convened Call to Renewal, an interfaith anti-poverty campaign, and has called on all Christians to read Pope Benedict XVI's encyclical Caritas in Veritate. His latest book is Rediscovering Values: On Wall Street, Main Street, and Your Street — A Moral Compass for the New Economy (2010); His books The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith & Politics in a Post-Religious Right America (2008) and God's Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It (2005) were both New York Times bestsellers.
