In a future world where the pressures of rapid climate change have disintegrated global society into idiosyncratic cultures forming in isolated pockets, Edilia emerges as a city of networked towers, each one existing as a tool of it's inhabitant's trade, be it baking, warehousing, birdkeeping, agriculture, horticulture or spiritual guidance.
Edilia has emerged from the synthesis of two distinct cultures: a society of sea-farers who understand the very flow of the winds have come together with a society of farmers who utilize Iceland's geothermal vents as a direct heat energy source. They have formed a renaissance culture of geothermally-powered-balloon navigators, who use their balloons to make possible an extensive farming system that spreads seeds across Iceland and utilizes the land at a low intensity.
