Self Portrait: Mirror is the first piece within a trilogy of self portraits. Mirror uses chance operations with a toolset of drawing, audience interrogation and years worth of journals to explore the psyche, mind worms, components of identity, the illusion of selfhood and the spaces in our mind we keep for ourselves.
This piece is a structured improvisation created and continuing to evolve in conjunction with my brother and collaborator Mason Rosenthal. What began as an inquiry into my visual arts practice, mental health and a performance experimentation into "brothers in a basement" has evolved into a series of self portraits. All three pieces are to be presented together, repeated in one space as a durational performance, allowing for the artifacts of each performance to accrue and create a physical manifestation of the inquiries.
