Cine Lo-cal is a series of videos that look at stripping Hollywood films down to just the incidental landscape scenes.
A process of removal that is part parody and part visual experiment, Cine Lo-cal was inspired by the work of tolkieneditor and Harmy (The Hobbit & Star Wars respectively), where rogue editors have hacked down their bloated source material into something (in their opinion) much more palatable.
Cine Lo-cal takes this style of editing to an extreme, by removing all extraneous facets such as character, plot and direction, leaving only seemingly insignificant landscapes that cut from one scene to another at random. The footage that remains is not unlike what a tourist would take, attempting to leave the viewing experience as pastoral and unchallenging.
For added absurdity the remaining footage is repeated until it makes the length of a full feature film, humorously referencing modern Hollywood practice and inducing tedium.
The first ‘episode’ in this series is a version of drama The Room, widely considered the worst film of all time. Note: this version is a single loop in compliance with Vimeo's practices.
