This is the first of five clips drawn from Joe Minjares's stage play, The King of the Kosher Grocers. Based on a real grocer and store from Joe's childhood in Minneapolis, the play was a big hit here, and went on to runs in Arizona, the Globe Theater in San Diego, and elsewhere. Joe asked me to film five scenes, which he and I and my friend and fellow filmmaker, Mong Vang, selected. Joe assembled an ace cast and Mong and I recruited Mike P. Nelson for cinematography and Doug Gander as chief lighting technician. Many other colleagues from the Twin Cities film community joined in.
